Welcome to Arch-Studio 1

Welcome to Arch-Studio 1

This is a design studio where you, the architecture student, you begin to learn how to design through a descriptive process. Architecture can be said to be divided into 2 paradigms; 1. the design side, and 2. the constructive. This year, you will learn how to integrate both paradigms into a single discipline by designing several programs and building then terminating each project with an exhibit board, physical model, and a final presentation.

The year:
You will learn how to design by investigating form vs function, radiant projections, component assemblies, and connective systems. The process will involved multiple program applications from the 2D to 3D, using AutoCAD Architecture, SketchUP, Rhino, Illustrator, and Photoshop. During the technical training, several projects will be embedded, to give you, the user, the simulated experience of architectural design practice into action.

Lessons:
Each lesson will be uploaded to this site. Simply click on "LESSONS" at the top of this site to visit that page. When that page has populated, click on the respective lesson to read and review. Lessons will be uploaded each week so it is imperative that you refer to this site weekly.

Major Project:
You will be required to develop a major project for the year! This project can be anything related to architectural design, including but not limited to  residential design, commercial, mix-used, high-rise, parametric, etc. The project will require a 10-page minimum research report, a comprehensive collective of CAD documents, 3D and physical model, followed by 2 presentation boards. All presentations will be hosted at the end of the academic year.
